What is chiptuning?
Every modern car has an ECU (Electronic Control Unit), also known as the engine management. This "computer" controls everything, such as:
- the amount of fuel injected
- the ignition timing
- the turbo pressure
- exhaust emissions
Chiptuning means we rewrite or modify the software in this ECU. We adjust the parameters so that your engine runs more efficiently, often resulting in significantly better performance.
What does chiptuning provide?
The benefits are not just more power. Chiptuning can improve your car in several ways:
✅ More power and torque
With turbo engines, tuning often delivers 20% to sometimes as much as 40% of extra torque and power. You notice this immediately when accelerating and overtaking. But differs per car and engine type.
✅ Smoother ride
The engine responds more smoothly to the throttle. Especially with automatics, this gives a much more comfortable feeling.
✅ Lower consumption in some cases
With the same driving style, your fuel consumption may drop slightly as the engine runs more efficiently. However, this strongly depends on how you drive.
Is chiptuning safe?
At Lensen Products, we work exclusively with safe margins. That means:
- No excessive settings that shorten the life of your engine
- Only tuning that suits the technical condition and maintenance of your car
- Always check for fault codes and systems before and after tuning
As long as you maintain your car properly, chiptuning is perfectly safe in most cases. Of course, we always discuss in advance what is possible and responsible.
Can I combine chiptuning with other upgrades?
Absolutely. Chiptuning often works even better when combined:
- Custom exhaust systems → less back pressure = better flow
- High-flow air filters or intake systems
- Stronger coupling in cars with a lot of extra torque
- Bigger turbo upgrades (for extreme projects)

Is chiptuning legal in the Netherlands?
Good question: it is not forbidden. But there are some requirements:
- Your car does need to stay within the legal emissions requirements
- Your MOT inspection should remain hassle-free
What does chiptuning cost?
The price depends on:
- Make and type of engine
- Whether it is a stage 1 tuning (software only) or a more extensive stage 2-3 tuning
- Any additional hardware upgrades

Can chiptuning be done on any car?
Chiptuning is possible on many cars, but not on every car. It depends mainly on the type of engine and the electronics present. Modern cars almost always have an ECU (Electronic Control Unit), which is essential for chiptuning.
In practice, turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines are particularly suitable. These often offer the greatest gains in power and torque, without compromising reliability. We can also sometimes make gains in modern atmospheric engines (i.e. without turbocharging), although often more limited.
Older vehicles without modern ECUs or with severely outdated engine management systems are usually not tunable with software alone. Electric cars or some hybrid models are also out of the question, as there the propulsion is regulated differently.
